Due to months of petitioning by students and parents asking for a more comfortable bathroom experience, Manhattan’s “Fame” high school has finally taken action in creating multi-stall, gender-neutral bathrooms.

Last Tuesday, the city Education Department officials announced that Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts will convert four existing restrooms into multi-stall bathrooms as soon as possible.

LaGuardia High School’s principal, Dr. Lisa Mars added how “Inclusivity is a core value at LaGuardia” and later explained how she was dedicated to making sure students at her school were comfortable and shared equal opportunity to fulfill their highest potential.

While some city schools have already serviced single-occupancy, gender-neutral bathrooms, LaGuardia will be the first educational institution allowing all genders to occupy the same facilities.

GDS recognizes the Manhattan school’s decision for their newest sign updates in reaction to the New York City Mayor’s Executive Order 16, ensuring a more relaxed environment for gender non-conforming individuals in public settings. GDS has already proudly completed new restroom signage for most of their New York City- based hospitals such as for the NYC Health + Hospitals network, and our team continues to complete more.

As an already experienced sign manufacturer, our team would like to offer our services to any facility, looking to pass their next inspection! You can send any inquiries to info@gdssigns.com or by simply giving us a call at TOLL-FREE (888) 437-9993. We look forward to helping you fulfill the – January 1, 2017, requirement!
